deferred until inspiration hits: Another project - Public Swimming Pools in the UK - deferred until inspiration hits

A huge amount of money has been spent on the Active Places site and as you say it doesn't give you a very accurate idea of what's available to the public. If you know where you are going to be staying and which local council is in charge of that area, then you can log on to the Council's website and find out about their leisure facilities.

There has been a big decline in the number of public swimming pools over the last 20-30 years; with private health clubs often replacing the public facility.

    Hey Sally,

Are you involved in the Active Places website? I just found this
written answer[1] that states that the budget for that website is
£1,100,000 for 2007/08. That's an incredible amount of money: I wonder
how much was spent on the data and how much was on development/maintenance.

I've just emailed sport england to ask if I might be able to use their data.

Go for it. Consider using strict xhtml with semantic id's so the entire site exists as a very rough XML of the data - that way other people can build on your work.
